Advanced DNA Technologies Training
Receive FREE advanced DNA laboratory training at the Marshall University Forensic Science Center in Huntington, WV. The week-long hands-on training session will be taught by qualified DNA trainers as described in the list of training modules provided below. Individuals should have a basic knowledge of DNA applications for forensic testing. Members of laboratories who want to develop a high-throughput testing format or are switching from a gel-based analysis to capillary systems will benefit from the training modules. MUFSC can customize training to meet specific needs of the participants.

Participants should bring .fsa sample files; Non-probative, raw data sample files from your laboratory may be used as part of the training exercises. Bring desired files on CD.

Applicant Requirements

  • Employed by an accredited forensic crime laboratory
  • Currently employed as a DNA Analyst or directly related position
  • Have a desire to expand professional knowledge of DNA analysis
  • Complete pre-workshop exercises, readings and documentation as requested
  • Be willing to actively participate in classroom activities and discussions
  • Be willing to travel to attend training

Accommodations
All reasonable travel expenses will be paid to participants under support of the President’s DNA Initiative.  Airfare and hotel arrangements will be prepared by and billed to the Marshall University Forensic Science Center (MUFSC).  A rental car for each agency will be reserved for participants coming into the Yeager Airport in Charleston, WV.  A free shuttle service provided from the Tri-State Airport in Huntington, WV to the hotel and from the hotel to the MUFSC training sessions will be arranged.  Some travel fees must be paid by the participant or the agency at the time of travel and will be reimbursed. Meals are paid at the standard state government per diem rate of 35 dollars a day and do not require receipts.  Rental car, gasoline, airport parking and any other reasonable cost must have original itemized receipts to be considered for reimbursement on the travel settlement.  You will be contacted by the training coordinator with the details of your travel arrangements after you have been accepted into training session.
