MISDE Hosts National White Collar Crime Center's Training

The Marshall Information Security and Digital Evidence Program  hosted a computer crime training course conducted by the National White Collar Crime Center Nov. 1-5, 2004 at the Marshall University Forensic Science Center . 

The course on basic data recovery and analysis was designed for criminal investigators and prosecutors who investigate and prosecute high-technology crimes and seize electronic evidence.

Topics included instruction about evidence identification and extraction, hardware and software needed to do a seizure, how to recover erased files, how to overcome encryption, and high-tech legal issues.

MISDE is a joint program between the Forensic Science Program and the College of Information Technology and Engineering and is funded, in part, by the National Institute of Justice under cooperative agreement 2001-RC-CX-K002.

The Forensic Science Center ’s graduate program in forensic science now offers an area of emphasis in computer forensics.  Courses included in the emphasis include: Cybercrime, Foundations and Fundamentals of Digital Forensics, Digital Imaging, Information Security, and Advanced Data Recovery. 

The Forensic Science Center consists of a two-year Master of Science degree program in Forensic Science and the laboratories for the WV Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Additionally, the center assists law enforcement in training and education to meet national standards and continuing education requirements.
