Nicholas County students learn about cyber safety
Sponsored by the Department of Integrated Science and Technology and the MU Forensic Science Center, the program focused on cyber security threats to students who use the Internet, whether for social networking sites like Facebook or geotagging photos. They learned about password protections and avoiding computer attacks. Dangers of sexually explicit text messages, or "sexting" as it is known, also were covered. The presentations were followed by a panel discussion and a tour of the Forensic Science Center.
The students are members of Nicholas County High School's Future Business Leaders of America organization and the presentation will serve as a community service project for the club. The students plan to take what they learn back to their school and put on a presentation for their student body as well as for Richwood High School, Summersville Middle School and Richwood Middle School, according to Susan Jones, the organization's faculty sponsor.
