Position: Information Systems Technician, Forensic Science/MUSOM

Salary: Pay Grade 15, $27,015/annually

Qualifications: Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and two year of related and progressively responsible experience, including help desk support. Knowledge of LAN hardware/software requirements, design, security, and standard operating procedures; knowledge of web applications and database management such as MS SQL, ASP.NET; knowledge of applications systems analysis and programming; working knowledge of printers/copiers/optical scanners; working knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems, MS Office Suite, tape library backup systems and software, and storage area network (SAN) devices; working knowledge hardware and software virtualization products; working knowledge of digital/computer forensic laboratory practices and methodology; working knowledge of University IT Policies and Procedures; ability to evaluate and analyze user requests and develop effective work plans for systems development and maintenance; ability to present ideas and communicate effectively with customers, faculty, staff and students; ability to maintain current working knowledge of technical information in a rapidly changing field; ability to follow complex written and oral instructions; ability and coordination in handling equipment and samples as required by laboratory protocol; high level of visual acuity; may be required to lift up to 70 pounds.

Duties: Consults with users to determine specific hardware, software, and data requirements necessary for efficient systems operation; analyzes and evaluates new and existing MUFSC systems for possible modification. Researches vendor and other agency solutions. Prepares and presents feasibility studies; assures systems and related products developed or purchased comply with applicable University and MUFSC standards; develops methodologies to integrate commercial and in-house developed application systems into current MUFSC systems; develops and applies scenarios and audit procedures to carry out testing, monitoring, and logging of systems. Conducts individual or small group training sessions for MUFSC staff in the use of hardware and software. Is responsible for the MUFSC's data backup and archival. Provides routine installation of computer hardware and software. Provides hardware/software troubleshooting and technical assistance to MUFSC staff. Routinely conducts inventory of MUFSC IT assets and monitors all MUFSC software licensing. Researches technical information in order to maintain working knowledge of current computer technology. Drafts security policies that comply with applicable University and MUFSC standards. Performs related work as required.
