Position Title: Forensic Science Evidence Technician
Location: Forensic Science Center
Position Type: Full-time
Salary: $20, 000 - 26,000/annually

Qualifications: Associate's degree with an emphasis in a forensic related science or laboratory experience through course work or work experience; exposure to the use of laboratory instrumentation and laboratory methods. Ability to follow written procedures and protocols as well as oral instruction; ability to recognize fine detail as related to forensic samples; ability to maintain accurate, detailed records; ability to maintain confidentiality; basic knowledge of computer software applications; knowledge of sterile laboratory techniques; ability to learn the operation of laboratory equipment and specialized computer software programs; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with scientific and non-scientific personnel; ability to work in a team environment as well as function independently; work with minimal supervision, prioritize work and meet deadlines; ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with law enforcement agencies, faculty, staff and service personnel; understand and use scientific measurement; possess a valid driver's license. Travel may be required. Agility and coordination in handling equipment and samples as required by laboratory protocol; high level of visual acuity. Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background check.

Duties: Inventory, organize and prepare samples for DNA analysis using both manual and automated methods; conduct examination and serological screening of forensic evidentiary items; prepare reagents and solutions following standardized formulas and protocols; perform general laboratory maintenance and calibration of equipment; maintain inventory of laboratory reagents and supplies; operate, calibrate, clean and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment. Follow up with manufacturer/service provider when problems arise. Maintain clean laboratory workspace and assist staff with daily QA/QC requirements; review current safety procedures and practice safe storage and handling of hazardous and toxic materials; perform related work as required.
