Job Description:

Tenure Track 12 month appointment in Digital Forensics and Information Assurance. The successful candidate is expected to continue their pursuit of external funding to support research to promote the dissemination of new information and the improvement of the forensic sciences. The position requires a knowledge and/or experience in the following areas analytical techniques, instrumentation, data interpretation, ethics and professional values, court testimony, evidence handling, logic, principle and concepts of forensic science applications, scientific method, method validation, evolution of the discipline, accepted standards and practices, results and conclusions, process analysis, QA/QC, report writing, case management, and knowledge of instrumentation and techniques as they relate to forensic science and/or analysis. The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in the area of digital forensics evidence with proper alignment to the program’s mission, goals, and objectives and accreditation standards. Research in the area of digital forensics is preferred. The successful candidate will teach or have oversight authority in select courses, assist in developing curricula, advise and mentor students, as well as serve on university and program-related committees. Membership in regional and national forensic science organizations is encouraged. The successful candidate will participate in teaching, research, and community service in a manner that effectively reflects the university’s, as well as the program’s mission, goals, and objectives.

More specifically, the successful candidate will teach some or all components of the following courses: FSC 632 Foundations and Fundamentals of Digital Evidence (3); FSC 634 Digital Evidence Search and Seizure (3); FSC 605 Digital Imaging (Spring semester; 3 credits): FSC 636 Mobile Forensics (Spring semester; 2 credit hrs); FSC 676 Advance Digital Forensics (Spring semester; 3 credit hrs). In addition, the successful candidate will assist in advising graduate students enrolled in the crime scene emphasis, oversee their internships and research, whether in the lab or away, and review research papers and research projects, oral and poster presentations.

Requried Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in a digital forensics-related area or other applicable doctoral or graduate degree appropriate for the field of digital forensics analysis. Applicants with a degree in forensic science and work experience in a forensic science laboratory are preferred. The successful candidate will have a strong research record including publications, grant writing and submissions, as well as a record of extramural-funding of research activities or potential for such awards and activities. The successful candidate will have work and/or teaching experience in the areas of forensic digital forensics analysis. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong teaching skills and ability to inspire student learning; will model and mentor professional ethics and values; will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in education; display strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills, as well as oral and written communications skills. A minimum of 2 years of teaching at an accredited institution of higher learning is required. Teaching experience is a FEPAC-accredited program is preferred. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in quality control and quality assurance applications including ISO 17020 guidelines, national certification of personnel, non-compliant data, documentation evaluation, validation and verification, linearity, limits of detection, limits of quantitation, limits of reporting, controls and calibrators, measurement of uncertainty, traceability, corrective and preventive actions, proficiency testing, confidence interval/confidence limits, sample plans and selection, as these quality assurance measures apply to the scientific validation of methods in the area of digital evidence.

Required is a knowledge of digital forensics terminology, principles and analytical techniques used in the analysis of digital evidence as it applies to the crime scene and the forensic laboratory; knowledge of the correct procedures for providing expert testimony in court; knowledge of the procedures for packaging, handling, and preserving evidence; knowledge of what constitutes digital evidence; knowledge of the scientific method and its application to research in this area; skill in the use of scientific equipment and software; skill in calibrating and maintaining field and laboratory equipment; ability to conduct forensic science research to attract extramural funding.
